Obituary

Mrs. Avnis Brown Maddox, age 91, of Hazlehurst, died Sunday, May 08, 2016 at the Pavilion in Baxley. Mrs. Maddox was born October 10, 1924 in Johnson Corner to the late Alfred Brown and the late Vesta Dixon Brown. She was a retired first grade teacher having taught for 32 years in the Jeff Davis County school system and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Maddox of Hazlehurst; sister, Alma Brown; brothers, John Thomas Brown and Carlos Brown of Uvalda. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Donnie Black of Hazlehurst; son, Ray Maddox and Denna Ansley of Hazlehurst; four grandchildren, Brent (Sarah) Black, Jana (Mark) Willingham, Kyle (Nikki) Maddox, and Kerri Maddox; six great-grandchildren, Miriam and Matthew Black, Aly, Claire, and Carter Willingham, and Brayden Maddox; two nieces also survived. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst with visitation starting at 10:00-11:00am and funeral services starting at 11:00am with Rev. Brad Waters officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church building fund, 30 N. Tallahassee St. would be appreciated. The family may be contacted at the residence of Donnie and Myra Black, 19 E. Bennett Avenue, Hazlehurst. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements for Mrs. Avnis Brown Maddox, age 91, of Hazlehurst.
