Mr. Bill Gene Wood, age 80, of Hazlehurst, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Memorial University Hospital in Savannah. Mr. Wood was born June 09, 1935 in Jeff Davis County to the late Woodrow Wood and the late Maxine Claxton Wood. He was a Veteran of The United States Army, retired from Ryles Max Auto Care where he worked as an Auto Mechanic for 47 years and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director. He is preceded in death by his Grandson, Tyler Carter, Brothers, Bobby Wood and Roger Wood, Sister, Betty Ann Crawford and Son-In-Law, Sam Foskey. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Selph Wood of Hazlehurst; Three Daughters, Shirley Carter of Hazlehurst, Patricia Foskey of Hazlehurst and Brenda (Tommy) Maddox of Hazlehurst; Son, Marshall (Josie) Wood of Hazlehurst; Four Sisters, Linda Davis of Hazlehurst, Geraldine (Robert) Stewart of Savannah, Mary Nell Duck of Alma and Barbara (Ray) Nobles of Hazlehurst; Brother, Allen (Cathy) Wood of Hazlehurst; 12 Grandchildren, Will (Meg) Wood, Kellie (Kyle) Varnadoe, Chris (Ciara) Carter, Casey (Karleigh) Carter, Somer (Bryant) Kerns, Tabitha (Adam) Kauger, Candace (Brett) Hatton, Destiny Maddox, Lynsie Maddox, Danielle (Manning) Davis, Tiffany Maddox Morris and Thomas Jr. (Jessica) Maddox; 16 Great-Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation will be held Monday, February 01, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 02, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Yawn, Rev. Royce Hulett and Mr. Jimmy Ryles officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Mr. Wood will be placed in the church one hour prior to Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers contributions can be to the Gideons. The family will assemble at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Wood, 176 Elizabeth Church Rd. Hazlehurst, Ga 31539.
