Brooks Hughes, age 78, of Hazlehurst, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Jeff Davis Hospital. Mr. Hughes was born May 1, 1935 in Jeff Davis County to the late Oscar Vernon Hughes and the late Lillian Summerlin Hughes. He was a retired farmer and an accomplished Pianist. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Etta Mae Carter, Ocalla Fussell and brother, Maxwell Hughes. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Hughes of Hazlehurst; Daughter, Gina Hughes of Richmond Hill and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at Satilla Free Will Baptist Church at 11:00am with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hughes will lie in state 1 hour prior to service time.
