Ms. Carolyn Ussery Murphy, age 79, of Hazlehurst, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at her residence.

Ms. Murphy was born on December 25, 1944, in Jeff Davis County. She was a Nurse for over 40 plus years (working with many great Doctors and nurses) and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Burl Ussery and Lois Walker Ussery and husband Leonard Edward Murphy.

She loved her family dearly, especially the grandchildren.

She enjoyed cooking and was known for her pecan pie, pound cake, red velvet cake and dressing and gravy.

She was a giving, big-hearted person, loved everyone and she will  truly be missed.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Doug Murphy (Carla) of Hazlehurst; grandson, Austin Murphy of Hazlehurst; and great-granddaughter, Brailyn Overstreet.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 15, 2024, at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst with Rev. Brad Waters and Rev. Jinker Horton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be held in the Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Doug Murphy, Austin Murphy, Stanley Land, Wayne Murphy and Ronnie Murphy will serve as active pallbearers.
