Obituary

Cephus Turner, age 68, of Hazlehurst, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Mr. Turner was born July 3, l946 in Appling County to the late James Burnice Turner and the late Dollie Mae Johnson Turner, but had resided in Jeff Davis County for the past 44 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam, was retired from Hazlehurst Mills as a Weaving Manager and was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. Survivors include his Wife Leisa Turner of Hazlehurst; Daughter, Gayle Waters of Douglas; three Sons, Wayne and Vicki Waters, Travis and Bridget Wright and Tanner Wright all of Hazlehurst; Sisters, Sue O'Quinn of Macon, Edith Lightsey and Linda Harper both of Baxley; one Grandson, Kyle Waters and one Great-Grandson Lucus Waters; Mother-in-Law, Shirley Griner; Sister-in-Law, Judy Lynn Griner; Brother-in-Law, Dewayne Griner; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Brazzell, Rev. Robert Wigley and Rev. Charles Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery, with Military Honors. Active pallbearers will be James O'Quinn, Scott O'Quinn, Rickey Lightsey, Brad Harper, Alan Harper and Dewayne Griner. Mr. Turner will lie in state on hour prior to services. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements for Cephus Turner, age 68, of Hazlehurst.
