Mr. David Chavis, age 86, of Hazlehurst, died Sunday, September 06, 2015 at Lumber City Nursing Home. Mr. Chavis was born January 13, 1929 in Jeff Davis County to the late Rev. Bob Chavis and the late Myrtice Yawn Chavis. He was a retired Butcher, owner of Jeff Davis Abattoir and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Bass Chavis, sisters, Alice Parlor, Bonnie McLeod, Margaret Johnson, Mildred Moon, and brothers, Joseph Chavis and James Chavis. Survivors include Daughter and Son-In-Law, Myra and Wayne Murphy of Hazlehurst; Grandson, Nash Murphy of Hazlehurst; Brothers, Cecil Chavis of Hazlehurst and Richard Chavis of Uvalda; several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation will be held Wednesday Morning from 9:00-11:00 o'clock with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 o'clock in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Williams officiating.
