David Edward Phillips, age 90, of Lumber City, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Lumber City Nursing Home. Mr. Phillips was born December 7, 1923 in Victoria Alabama to the late Joel David Phillips and the late Bessie Grissett Phillips. He was a retired Mechanic, a member of Sardis Baptist Church where he serviced as Deacon, Associational church training Director and Brotherhood Director. Mr. Phillips was a Veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Bennie Hardy Phillips, Daughter, Laura Ann Phillips, son, David Phillips, Sister, Luevina Chapman and Brother, George Phillips. Survivors include Daughter and Son-In-Law, Martha (Sonny) Bitting of Lumber City; Son and Daughter-In-Law, Joe (Lori) Phillips of Vidalia; Sisters, Luevena Newman of Enterprise, AL and Tootsie McPherson of Ludlow, Vermont; Brother, Billy Phillips of Tampa, FL.; 5 Grandchildren, Christie (Joey) Montford, Kevin Phillips, Kelly (Michael) Maybin, Michael Stanley and Conner Stanley; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Ryleigh Phillips, Kayleigh Montford and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6-8pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 3:00pm at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Phillips will lie in state 1 hour prior to service. Family may be contacted at the residence of Sonny & Martha Bitting, 2400 S. Hwy 19, Lumber City. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements for David Edward Phillips, age 90, of Lumber City.
