Mr. D.L. Jump, age 87, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 after an extended illness.

Mr. Jump was born August 26, 1933 in Snipesville (Jeff Davis County); he was preceded in death by his parents, the late Ernest Jump, Sr. and Bessie Meeler Jump and his wife of 56 years, JoAnn Norman Jump.

Mr. Jump received a certificate in maintenance from Americus Technical School. He then worked at, and retired from, Cook & Company in Lumber City, where he was a supervisor over the welding shop. He was also retired from his personal business, D.L.'s Fabricating and welding Shop in Hazlehurst. In addition, he was also a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Jeff Davis Board of Education for several years. He loved his Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets! He was very supportive in the various school programs, especially sports and FFA. He loved socializing with his friends at the Jacket Stop & Shop every morning and visiting the helpful ladies at the Bank of Hazlehurst. Mr. Jump was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, Sammy Beecher (Lynn), Shannon Jump New (Tony) all of Hazlehurst, and Gail Jump of Vidalia; a grandson, Justin "Jabo" Beecher (Heather Force) and two granddaughters, Ashley Beecher Lolley (Brad) of Hazlehurst and Casey New Williams (Cody) of Uvalda; a great-grandchild, Chap "Little Dude" Williams of Uvalda; a brother, Ernest Jump, Jr. (Joyce) of Ft. Valley; two sisters, Louise Jump Claxton and Buella Jump Edwards both Hazlehurst; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Norman and Barbara Connell (Steve) both of Hazlehurst and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the chapel of Wainright Parlor Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Keith Yawn and Rev. Tyrone Hutchinson will officiate. A eulogy will be provided by Mr. Jump's daughter, Gail and his music will be rendered by Mr. Jump's daughter, Shannon. Interment will follow at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will Justin Beecher, Todd Claxton, Dale Jump, Dean Jump, Brad Lolley, and Cody Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will include Pam R. Davis, Marcus Trowell, Jr., Isaac Moody, Tommy Purser, Clyde McCall, Oscar Hulett, Jim Sewell, Roy Waters, Wayne Murphy, Mike Lynn, Nita McLeod, Donnie McEachin, Dan Simpson, Kelly Grace, Jean Daniels, Angie Ussery, Jay Patel, Tracy McClendon, Wendy Mincey, Martha Bitting, Buddy Creech, the employees of Hazlehurst Court Care & Rehab of Hazlehurst, the employees of Community Hospice of Vidalia and everyone in attendance.
