Doris Newham Smith, age 81, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Jeff Davis Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born November 08, 1933 in Jeff Davis County to the late Joe Newham and Bell Hayes Newham. She was retired from Piggly Wiggly where she was the head cashier and member of the Hazlehurst Church of God. She was preceded in death by her Husband, David Smith Jr., Sisters, Grace Byrd and Christine Farmer and brothers, J.M., Wallace, Aaron, Buddy, Jenkins and Emmitt Newham. Survivors include her Daughter and Son-In-Law, Diane and Roy Gillis of Hazlehurst; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Donnie and Marion Smith of Hazlehurst; Grandchildren, Barry Smith, Ray Cook, Monica Clements and Andy Bohannon all of Hazlehurst; Brother, Linton Newham of Hazlehurst; several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:00am at Hazlehurst Church of God with Rev. Nathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Mrs. Smith will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The family may be contacted at the residence, 95 Walton Way, Hazlehurst.
