Dorothy Batten Kirkland, age 87, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 in Jeff Davis Hospital. Mrs. Kirkland was born December 7, 1925 in Coffee County to the late Henry & Nancy Batten and has resided in Jeff Davis County since 1953. She was the widow of Vickers Kirkland and a loving home maker. She was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook, and a member of Bridgeford Church of God. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas (Gwen) Kirkland & Wayne (Nancy) Kirkland all of Hazlehurst & Jerry (Beth) Kirkland of Nichols; sister, Arlene Williams of Douglas; 6 grandchildren, & 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-9PM at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 at 3:00pm at Bridgeford Church of God, with Rev. Robert Sorrow, Rev. Royce Hulett, & Rev. Milton Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Kirkland will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
