Mrs. Earline Varnadoe Steadham Buttrem, age 98, of Lumber City, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at The Woods at Lumber City skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.
Earline was born on December 11, 1927, in McRae to the late Earl and Lettie Mae Smith Varnadoe. She was raised in Telfair County before making her home in Cliftondale, Georgia, in the 1960s, where she spent the majority of her life. A faithful member of Cliftondale Baptist Church, she dearly loved her church family and found great joy in worshiping the Lord, visiting with fellow church members, and traveling on church trips together. Cooking and baking were her love language. If she cared about you, chances are she fed you, making sure no one ever left her table hungry. She was known for her honesty and straightforward nature, never hesitating to speak her mind with sincerity. She was the heart of her family and the matriarch everyone leaned on. She spent her life taking care of others, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, or open her home to anyone in need. Whether family by blood or by bond, immediate or extended, she loved each one wholeheartedly and was a constant source of strength, comfort, and unwavering support.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Bobby Steadham; her second husband, Aubrey Buttrem; her son, Paul Steadham; three grandchildren, Josh Steadham, Britany Steadham, and Haley Steadham; and three siblings, Buddy Varnadoe, Kenneth Varnadoe, and Frances Liss.
Mrs. Earline is survived by her son, Mallory (Kathy) Steadham of Cochran; her brothers, Harvey (Skeet) Varnadoe of Young Harris, and Wayne (Diana) Varnadoe of Lumber City; her grandchildren, Dugan (Marie) Steadham of Heflin, Alabama, Angie (Walt) Vann of Cleveland, Georgia, Jason Steadham of Atlanta, Cass (Sabrina) Steadham of Fairburn, Paula Steadham of Cliftondale, and Jeff Steadham of Atlanta; her great-grandchildren, Josh Steadham, Megan Steadham, and Katelyn Steadham; two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Mrs. Earline’s life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Fishing Creek Baptist Church in Lumber City with Rev. Eddis Kirkland officiating.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
