Mr. Elzie Ray Houston, age 76, of Hazlehurst, died Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Coffee Regional Hospital in Douglas.

Mr. Houston was born in Cairo Georgia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elzie Ford Houston and Catherine Hazel Akridge, and his wife Iris Anne Houston.

He was a dedicated family man and loving husband, married to his wife Iris for 56 years. He enjoyed honest work with his hands as a diesel mechanic and handyman. He retired from Fred Taylor Company as the Director of Safety after a total of 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling in his camper with his family, quail hunting, and drag racing.

He was blessed with two children Hal and Lynne, and two grandchildren Logan and Alex for whom he was a caring Father, grandfather, and role model.

Survivors include his daughter, Hazel Lynne Googe (her husband Ray); son, Elzie Harrell Houston (his wife Connie); brother, Ronnie Akridge Houston; two grandchildren, Logan Houston (his wife Crystal) and Alex Googe.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, February 01, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Andrews officiating.
