Mrs. Gene Wood McDowell, age 82, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday April 17, 2019 at Jeff Davis Hospital. Mrs. McDowell was born September 15, 1936 in Jeff Davis County to the late Glenn Wood and the late Ola B. Williams Wood. She was a retired Nurse and member of Mt Zion Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Marty Smith, son, Ricky Foskey, siblings, Doris Howell, Glenda Waters, Howell Wood, Bobby Wood, and Roy Wood. Survivors include her husband, Harold (Mac) McDowell of Hazlehurst; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Ronnie Waters of Hazlehurst; step-daughters, Lori Washam and Glenda Knox of Hazlehurst; step-son, Darrell McDowell of Hazlehurst; sisters, Betty Deloach of Claxton, Barbara Hendrix (Ed) of Hazlehurst, Evelyn Hewett of Nebraska; brother, Jimmie Wood (Carmen) of Ray City; seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation and Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2019 in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, visitation will begin at 1:00pm and funeral will follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Edis Kirkland, Rev. Hal Jeffcoat and Rev. Dewitt Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
