A Hazlehurst native, Glenda Rose Cochran, born October 27, 1945, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at her home in Atlanta. She was the daughter of the late Margaret and A.B. Cochran of Hazlehurst. Miss Cochran was owner of the Barron Rose Company, a publications and business consultation firm. Her work has been published in a variety of newspapers and magazines, both in Europe and in the U.S. Her books include Cumberland Island, A National Seashore and St. Simons Island, Enchanting Golden Isle. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and master degree in social work from the University of Georgia. While at the University, she was a member of Gamma Alpha Chi, advertising fraternity for women, and Kappa Delta sorority. After graduating from UGA and working abroad for two years, teaching in Munich and working in Public Relations in Garmisch, Partinkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, she was appointed to the Brenau College faculty in the Humanities Division, Journalism Institute, and Behavioral Sciences Department. Miss. Cochran is survived by her sister, Helen Cochran Castrillo; nephew, Ben Broaddus; niece, Ann Jackson and husband Tommy; grandnieces, Sara Grace and Emma Carmical. Rev. J. Barry Owens will conduct a graveside service 10:00AM Friday, November 29 at Palms Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1776, Hazlehurst, Ga. 31539 or to The American Cancer Society. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
