Obituary

Mr. Howard Rentz, age 78, of Hazlehurst, died Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Candler Hospital in Savannah.

Howard was born September 23, 1943, in Jeff Davis County.


He is preceded in death by his parents: Columbus Rentz and Thelma Copeland Rentz, his aunt and uncle that raised him: Lexie and Grover (Red) Deaton; two brothers:  Aubrey Rentz and Gene Rentz.  He owned and operated Rentz Taxidermy for over 40 years, he prided himself in the beautiful work he did. Hunters from all over the state of Georgia and surrounding states would bring Mr. Howard their deer heads, fish, bobcats, bears, hogs, or any other trophies they may have for him to work his magic.  He also loved gardening and was well known for his large lemons and tasty tomatoes.  He found great joy in giving them away to his family, friends, and even strangers.  Howard's kind soul and generous heart touched so many lives.

Howard was employed with Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home for over 45 years where he used his gifts to selflessly work behind the scenes in service of his community and to maintain the ministry that is Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. He spent many long tireless hours working, so grieving families could view their loved one and find closure. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home will forever be grateful for his dedicated service and loyal friendship.

Survivors include his wife: Zelphia Hesters Rentz of Hazlehurst; daughter and son-in-law: Brandi and Dustin Raker of Hazlehurst; three sons and daughters-in-law: Keith and Robbie Rentz, Tim and Karen Rentz and Brian Rentz all of Hazlehurst; grandchildren: Lexie Clark, Shellie McBride, Josh Rentz, Mathew Rentz, Ashley Rentz, Draven Marquez, and twins, Avi and Nora Rentz.  Great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm in Wainright-Parlor Chapel.

Graveside Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 11:00 am in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Justin McLellan officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
