James Allen Carter, age 70, of Hazlehurst, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. Mr. Carter was born March 08, 1947 in Appling County to the late Samuel Carter and the late Kathleen Myers Carter. He was retired from Hazlehurst Mills and a member of the Hazlehurst Church of God. He is preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Carter, grandson, Jared Carter, sister, Glenda Kay Lynn and brother, Larry Carter. Survivors include his wife Virginia Poe Carter of Hazlehurst; two sons, Joseph Carter of Hazlehurst and Mike Merritt of Hazlehurst; sister, Jackie Hall of Baxley; brothers, Danny Carter of Baxley and David Carter of Baxley; grandchildren, Jocelynn Carter, Bailey Carter, Jacob Carter, Jessica Lee, Cory Carter; great-grandchildren, Gavin Johnson, Grayson Johnson, Annilynn Miller, Mattie Lee and Adyson Lee; several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Merritt and Rev. Robert Wigley officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakview Baptist Church Cemetery. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements for James Allen Carter, age 70, of Hazlehurst.
