Jewell Delora
White
Mar 28, 1931 — Jul 25, 2020
Jewell Delora Spell White, age 89, of Lumber City, passed away on Saturday, July 25 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Born March 28, 1931 in Hazlehurst, GA, she was the daughter of the late Gaines Erastus Spell and Mattie Hand Spell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Hilton White, sisters, Louise Ryles and Eunice Johnson and brothers Loyal Spell, Raleigh Spell, and L. W. Spell, all of Hazlehurst.
She is survived by one daughter, P. J. Canady, and son-in-law Matt Canady of Azle, Texas, two sons, Kirby Videtto of Macon, and Joseph Videtto of Moultrie, one granddaughter, Caroline Turner of Lake Jackson, Texas and grandsons, Bryce Turner of Denton, Texas, and Carter Howard of Lizella, GA, sister, Corene Grosse of Jacksonville, FL and brother Donnie Spell of Hazlehurst, along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her "honorary son" Skylar Spurlin, and two very special friends, Kathee McDuffie and Michelle Holder.
Jewell spent most of her adult years living in Macon, moving down to Alston in 1999 to be closer to extended family. She loved working in her yard and always had the most beautiful flowers. Often people driving by would stop to admire her yard and ask for flower cuttings. In her latter years, she enjoyed making others smile, socializing with staff and other residents, and playing Bingo at Lumber City Nursing and Rehab. She was even crowned "Mrs. Valentine" a few years ago at the nursing home pageant. She loved her "pink room" with strawberry pink walls, and photos of her loved ones covered almost every inch of those walls. Everyone that knew her loved her. Most of the staff at the nursing home called her "mama" and many would come to her room during the day just to give her a hug. She had an infectious smile and laugh, and such a sweet personality. She had a kind, gentle heart and she was our "precious Jewell" and we cherish the memories.
Jewell was a Christian having given her heart to Jesus Christ years ago and she enjoyed attending the various church services at the nursing home.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic that claimed her life, a small, private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by her nephew Jimmie Ryles at the Bridgeford Church of God Cemetery in Hazlehurst.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made directly to "Activities Fund in the Memory of Jewell White" and send to c/o Lumber City Nursing and Rehab, P. O. Box 188, Lumber City, GA 31549. All donations will go directly toward activities for the residents of Lumber City Nursing and Rehab.
