Obituary

Mr. Joe Paul Turner, age 83, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.


He was born on March 29, 1942, in Mershon, Georgia to the late Joe Clyde Turner and Jewel Byrd Turner. After graduating from high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he pursued his education and became a skilled electrician, retiring after a dedicated 30-year career.


Mr. Turner was a devoted Christian and member of Hazlehurst Church of God and he loved watching the gospel channel on TV. He was a true family man who cherished time spent with both his family and his church family. Above all, he deeply loved his wife, who was the pride and joy of his life.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Turner; his step-daughter, Malandy Shollenberger; his brothers, Larry Turner, Harry Smith, Ed Smith, Willie "Dub" Smith, James Smith; his sisters, Ruby Long, and Mary Campbell; and his brothers in law, Joe Webster, Dale Long, Robby Robbins.


His family includes his daughters, Lynn Stewart, and Linda Campbell (Michael); his sisters, Diana Webster and Sue Robbins; his brother, Wayne Turner (Michelle); Sisters in law, Becky Turner, Barbara Smith, and Joann McCollum; his grandchildren, Jessi Adkins, Bonnie Stewart (Chris), Alex Stewart (McKenzie), and Jadie Adkins; his great-grandson, Liam; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home to assist the family during this time.


The family would like to thank Coastal Hospice, Jeff Davis Hospital, and the Trauma Unit at Memorial Health for the excellent care they provided for Mr. Turner.
