Mr. John Hamilton Bookhardt, age 73, of Hazlehurst, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Bookhardt was born on October 14, 1946 in Jeff Davis County. He retired from Hazlehurst Mills and was a veteran of the Navy, where he served in the Vietnam War. He was an active member of The Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church. Mr. Bookhardt was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He was a skilled longbow hunter, dog trainer, and gardener. He was a  great father, brother, husband, and friend. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee Bookhardt, and mother, Eva Lou Walker Bookhardt, brother, Calvin Bookhardt, a son Little John Bookhardt, and a daughter Kattie Casandra Bookhardt Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Creamer Bookhardt of Hazlehurst; five daughters, Jamie Patricia Hughes (Leland) of Baxley, Jessica Hope Bookhardt-Snyder (Jonathan) of Carrollton, Megan Marie King (Joel) of Hazlehurst, Amiee' Teresa Green (Troy) of Snipesville, and Hannah Louise Bookhardt of Savannah; two sons, Wesley Howard Bookhardt of Snipesville, and Shane

Miles Bookhardt (Anna) of Springfield; one step-son Charles Brian Creamer of Hazlehurst; four sisters, Sara Jo Dorsey of Mt. Zion, Daniela Bookhardt of Mt. Zion, June McEachin of Hazlehurst, and Brenda Tuten (Larry) of Varneville, SC; three brothers, Edward Bookhardt of Orlando, FL, Jesse Bookhardt (Eleanor) of Rock Spring, and James Bookhardt (Ann) of Denton; fifteen grandchildren, Brianna Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Elliot Snyder, Everett Snyder, Judson King, Jeb King, Tera Green, Dylen Green, Tori Green, Daniel Bookhardt, Flint Bookhardt, Erica Solomon (Corey), John Bush (Jamie), Caitlin Creamer, and Cody Creamer; two great-grandchildren, Landon Solomon and Paisley Solomon; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Tyrone Hutchinson, Rev. Roger Daniels, and Rev. Van McCall officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Wesley Bookhardt, Shane Bookhardt, Bruce Johnson, John Bush, Matthew Hughes and Daniel Towns.
