Karen Elizabeth Jones, age 69, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2026, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
She was born on July 7, 1957, in Hazlehurst, to the late J.R. and Genelle Hughes. She was a native and lifelong resident of Hazlehurst. She was Christian by faith and attended Bible Baptist Church. She found great happiness in tending to her flowers and cherished rose bushes and could often be found watching the birds that visited her yard, with redbirds and hummingbirds holding a special place in her heart. Karen's greatest joy in life was her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as "Nana." She was incredibly proud of each of them and treasured every moment they spent together.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons, Clint and Ricky Rowell; and her siblings, Keith Hughes, Russell Hughes, Kenny Hughes, Michael Hughes, Roberta (Pug) Sellers, Janice Holton, Patricia Carter and Linda O’Neal.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Jeff Jones of Hazlehurst; her daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy & Jermain Blair of Columbus, and Heaven & DJ Stanley of Hazlehurst; her sisters, Lisa Foskey, Norie Foskey, and Debra Yawn; her sister-in-law, Martha Hughes; her grandchildren, Noah Rowell, DJ Ortiz, and Nick Ortiz; her great-grandchildren, Dayanera Toler, Declan Faught, Ashlynn Ortiz, and Brayden Stanley; her great-granddog, Mia Ortiz, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Davis officiating.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until just prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the Satilla Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be DJ Ortiz, Nick Ortiz, DJ Stanley, Devin Hughes, Ordell Foskey, and Bennie Hughes.
