Obituary

Luke James Collins, Sr., age 46, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

He was born on September 11, 1979, in Lafayette, Louisiana to Karl Collins and Michelle Ely Hughes. He moved to Hazlehurst with his family at a young age, where he spent most of his life. He worked as a truck driver and took pride in everything he did. A perfectionist by nature, Luke believed in giving his very best and had a knack for mastering whatever he set his mind to. Luke loved to shoot pool and sing karaoke, and he was also a self-proclaimed food critic. Though naturally quiet, he had a way of making everyone feel loved. He was what many would call an extroverted introvert—never a man of many words, but when he spoke, his words carried meaning, and you could always count on them. He had an undeniable gift for persuasion and could truly "sell ice to an Eskimo." To his mother, Luke was her heart and her “golden child.” Above all, he loved his family deeply, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved, especially his grandchildren.

Luke is preceded in death by his father, Karl Collins.

Luke is survived by his parents, Roy and Michelle Hughes of Hazlehurst; his son, Luke Collins, Jr. of Hazlehurst; his daughters, Hannah Collins (Reece) of Douglas, and Brianna Green (Samuel) of Hazlehurst; his brothers, Matthew Hughes (Kaylee), Josh Hughes, and Timmy Hughes, all of Hazlehurst; his sisters, Katie Sellers (James) of Hazlehurst, and Linnie Davis (Casey) of Broxton; his grandchildren, Elodie Green, Lydia Green, Cohen Green, Cooper Green, and Camryn Green; and several other special family members

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Wainright Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Powell officiating.

Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
