Mattie Jo Sammons Bass, age 90, of Hazlehurst, died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Community Hospice House in Vidalia. Mrs. Bass was born August 27, 1925 in Wheeler County to the late Jonnie Lawton Sammons and the late Willie Viola Clark. She was retired from Tomico Egg and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Cecil Bass. Survivors include her two Daughters and Sons-in-law, JoAnn and T.M. Bridges of Hazlehurst and Connie and Ronnie Visage of Americus; Two Sons and Daughters-in-Law, Herman and Judy Bass and Ronnie and Debbie Bass all of Hazlehurst; Sister, Genia Clark of Spring Hill; Brother, Eugene Sammons of Lumber City and Lawton Sammons of Cordele; Sister-in-Law, Cindy Bass of Hazlehurst; Eleven Grandchildren and Thirteen Great-Grandchildren also survived. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Southside Baptist Church at 4:00pm with the Rev. Robert Wigley, Rev. Lawton Sammons and Rev. Deek Dubberly officiating. Interment will follow in the Palms Memorial Garden. Mrs. Bass will lie in state one hour prior to service.
