Mr. Joseph (Joe) Wilkerson, age 75, of Lumber City, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at his residence after a long illness. Mr. Wilkerson was born September 17, 1941 in Coffee County to the late Joe Richmond Wilkerson and the late Vyrue Ellis Wilkerson. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, retired Diesel Mechanic with Powell Trucking and a member of the Lumber City Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sandiford Wilkerson, daughter, Phyllis Pye, granddaughter, Brittany Hutcheson, brothers, Lamar Wilkerson and Roger Wilkerson, sister, Joanne Kirkland. Survivors include Daughters and Son-in-Laws, Teresa Chavez of Valdosta, Sharon Esquivel of Lumber City, Judy and William Fields of Hazlehurst and Betsy and Daniel Avellaneda of Lumber City; Sons and Daughters-in-Law, Melvin Wilkerson of Valdosta, Carroll and Andi Chaney of Snellville and Steven and Kesha Miles of Hazlehurst; Sisters, Omeree Courson of West Green, Esther (Jerry) Griner of Douglas, Avie Nell Merchant of Willichoohee, and Wanda Gail (Jr.) Stone of Pearson; Brothers, Roy Wilkerson of Douglas, Jack Wilkerson of Adell and Mose Wilkerson of Sabaston FL.; Twelve Grandchildren, Four Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am at Lumber City Baptist Church with Rev. Ashley Tyre and Rev. John Daughtry officiating. Interment will follow in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family may be contacted at the residence, 1414 Tom Haley Road, Lumber City.
