Obituary

Mr. Ottis L. Carter, age 88, of Hazlehurst, died Monday, January 15, 2018 at Lumber City Nursing Home. Mr. Carter was born May 28, 1929 in Appling County to the late Charlie Nathaniel Carter and the late Caroline Walker Carter. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, former employee with General Gas, Department Manager with Amoco Fabric and Fibers, formerly Lion Club President and member of the First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Spell, siblings, Ettie Lee Yawn, Inez Grubbs, Ethel Cravey, Muriel Miller, Lillian Marchant, Charlie Carter, Jr., Arthur Carter, Leland Carter, Walker Carter and Stacey Carter. Survivors include his wife, Imojean Long Carter of Hazlehurst; Daughter, Debra Carter of Hazlehurst; two sons, Gary and Raylene Carter of LaGrange and Darrell and Judy Carter of Denton; sister Mary Taylor of Buena-Vista; two grandchildren, Jammie Carter (Ge) and Sharié Smith (James); great-grandchildren, Logan Carter, Paige Carter, Jannie Beth Smith, Dylan Dennis and Julie Anna Smith; several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation and funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, visitation will begin at 1:00pm and funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Brad Waters and Rev. David Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements for Mr. Ottis L. Carter, age 88, of Hazlehurst.
