Retired Cpl. Shearwin Underwood #620, age 81, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, December 02, 2016 in Vidalia after an extended illness. Mr. Underwood was born July 03, 1935 in Jeff Davis County to the late John A. Underwood and the late Mable Chaney Underwood. He attended Jeff Davis High School, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice at Georgia Southern, was employed by the Hazlehurst Police Department, Jeff Davis Sheriff's Department, retired Trooper from Georgia State Patrol, was Transportation Director with the Jeff Davis County Board of Education for seven years, a member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst and a Veteran of the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nikki Underwood Graham and brother, Gerald Underwood. Survivors include his wife, Ester Beckworth Underwood of Hazlehurst; Son, Jim (Niki) Underwood of Hazlehurst; Grandson, Hayden Graham and Granddaughter, Carson Underwood both of Hazlehurst; Sister, Sue (Ed) Wilson of Hazlehurst, brother, J.L. (Jean) Underwood of Savannah; Special niece and nephew, Susan and Carroll Perry; several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 06, 2016 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Waters and Rev. Dewitt Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in Palms Memorial Garden with full Georgia State Patrol Honors.
