Richard Wooten, age 64, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Wooten was born September 23, 1949 in Telfair County but had resided in Jeff Davis County for the past 45 years. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Army, a retired Engineer with Amoco and Williams Plant Services at Plant Hatch and a member of the Hazlehurst Church of God where he served on the church council. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Treavy Sammons Dixon, Brothers, W.C. Wooten, Marvin Wooten and Joe Wooten. Survivors include his wife, Shirlene Carter Wooten of Hazlehurst; daughter, April Poe of Hazlehurst; three sons, Bradley Wooten of Lumber City, Gabe Wooten of Hazlehurst and Joel Poe of Hazlehurst; 13 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2 P.M. at the Hazlehurst Church of God with the Rev. Nathan Smith and Rev. Dewayne Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in the Carter Cemetery. Mr. Wooten will lie in state one hour prior to service time. The family may be contacted at the residence, 374 Ferrell Carter Road, Hazlehurst.
