Mr. Russell Thigpen, age 79, of Hazlehurst, died Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. Mr. Thigpen was born February 25, 1937 in Wheeler County to the late Frank Thigpen and the late Leila Coleman Thigpen. He was a retired Accountant with Lumber City Egg Marketers, member of Sardis Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his sister, Alouise Walker. Survivors include his wife, Winifred Elton Thigpen of Hazlehurst; Two Daughters and Son-in-Laws, Denise and Todd Carter of Brunswick and Lori and Kevin Thomas of Hazlehurst; Son, David Thigpen of Anderson, S.C.; Seven Grandchildren, Dylan Carter, Whitney Carter, Ashley Carter, Jade Thomas, Abbi Thomas, Crystal Layton and Heather Squires; Two Great-Grandchildren, Sydney Layton and Hayden Squires; several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Sardis Baptist Church in Wheeler County, Visitation starting at 3:00pm and Funeral Services following at 4:00pm with Rev. Merle Webster and Rev. Wayne Bennett officiating. Interment in follow in the Church Cemetery. The family can be contacted at the residence, 27 Libby Avenue, Hazlehurst.
