Sammy Smith, age 73, of Lumber City, died Sunday, April 08, 2018 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Mr. Smith was born December 30, 1944 in Telfair County to the late Herman Chester Smith and the late Macy Magdaline Housend. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, member of the Lumber City Masonic Lodge # 199 for fifty years, a member of the Lumber City Council and member of the Lumber City United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Kermit Gore and Kent Smith. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Stroupe Smith of Lumber City; Marci Smith McCranie (Tony Meadows) of Lyons; son, Marc C. Smith of Lumber City; sisters, Donna Jones (Ronnie) of Lumber City; and Glenda Burnette of MacClenny; brothers, Gary (Shine) Smith of Lumber City and William (Sparky) Smith of Alamo; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Lumber City United Methodist Church with Rev. Glen Hancock and Dr. Wayne MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in the Telfair Memorial Garden in McRae-Helena with Masonic Rites. Mr. Smith will lie in state one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Brain Tumor Association. Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements for Sammy Smith, age 73, of Lumber City.
