Mrs. Sandra Powell Chavis, age 76, of Uvalda, died Saturday, August 24, 2019 in Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness.

She was a native of Montgomery County and had lived in Uvalda most of her life. She was a 1962 graduate of Montgomery County High School. Before retiring as a bank teller she enjoyed working at a Variety of Jobs. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of Uvalda Church of God, but enjoyed attending many churches in the surrounding area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Eunice Johnson Powell.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard Chavis;

two daughters, Tina Watson (Mike Yawn) and Angie Sellers (Ken); one son, Tony Chavis, one sister, Lorene Powell; nine grandchildren, Megan Walker (Donnie), Jon Michael Watson, Karlie Watson, Abby Sellers, Trey Sellers, Peyton Sellers, Blake Chavis, Conner Chavis and Peedy Chavis; three great-grandchildren, Bailey Walker, Vayden Walker and Samuel Walker; and many special cousins.

Visitation will be held at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6:00-9:00pm

Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Reece Mincey and Rev. Alvin Merritt officiating.

Interment will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Community Hospice House.
