Mr. Silas A. Dukes, Jr., age 83, of Uvalda, died Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Mr. Dukes was born December 16, 1934 in Toombs County to the late Silas A. Dukes and the late Missouri Roberts Dukes. He was retired from Hazlehurst Mills and a member of Bible Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Bethene Baxley, sisters, Dorthy Pappas and Naomi Manders, brothers, I.L. Dukes, Zeke Dukes and Oscar Dukes. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Groober Dukes of Uvalda; daughter, Mary Jean Allen of Eastman; sons, David Dukes (Pam) of Baxley and Glenn L. Dukes (Heike) of Brandon FL.; sister, Myrtle Larson of Lake City; thirteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Bible Baptist Church, visitation will begin at 10:00am and funeral service will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Manford Gilbert offriciating. Interment will follow in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery. The family may be contacted at the residence, 402 Henry Wolfe Road, Uvalda.
