Anita Gayle Murray

Mrs. Anita Gayle Murray, age 69 of Roberta, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at her home.

She was born on January 31, 1956 in Port Neches, Texas. After graduating from high school, she joined the United States Air Force where she met her husband in Alexandria, Louisiana. Their family traveled with the Air Force, moving back and forth between Louisiana and Germany over the course of several years before moving to Valdosta and eventually Hazlehurst in 1997. In 2005, they settled in Roberta, Georgia.

Gayle was a huge animal lover and cared for animals of all kinds. In addition to being a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force,  she was an honorary band booster for the Crawford County High School band and loved attending all their football games. She was also an honorary PTO member with the Crawford County Primary School. Most of all, Gayle loved her grandkids and was very proud of them.

She is preceded in death by her father, Billy Aden Riley; and her brother, Glenn Aden Riley.

Her family includes her husband of 45 years, Woodrow Louis Murray of Roberta; her mother, Jimmie Ruth Cooley of Woodville, TX; her son, John Reeves (Cheryl) of Lubbock, TX; her daughters, Patricia Hawkins of Hazlehurst, Jimmie Meek (John) of Roberta, Ursula Murray of Roberta, and Bobbie Turner (Travis) of Hazlehurst; her brothers, Clyde Riley of Woodville, TX, and Jason Riley (Kandy) of Dayton, TX; and thirteen grandchildren, Makenzie Reeves, Conner Reeves, Ethan Hawkins, Erin Hawkins, Abigayle Meek, Hannah Meek, Austin Meek, Kaleb Turner, Elijah Turner, Riley Meeks, Addison Meeks, Uriah Turner, and Gabriel Turner.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Macedonia Church of God at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Van McCall officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Meek, Austin Meek, Ethan Hawkins, Travis Turner, Elijah Turner, and Uriah Turner. Kaleb Turner will be an honorary Pallbearer.
