Barbara Wood Hendrix of Hazlehurst, formerly Barbara Wood Mimbs of Dublin, died Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in Vidalia, GA of complications from diabetes.
Barbara and her twin brother Bobby were born September 1, 1948 in Hazlehurst, Jeff Davis County, Georgia to the late Ola Bell Wood and Glenn Felton Wood. She is predeceased by her brothers Howell, Bobby, and Roy (Bud), and by her sisters Doris, Glenda, and Jeannie.
Barbara grew up in Hazlehurst and Claxton, graduating as salutatorian from Claxton High School in 1966.
She married and moved to Laurens County where she bore a son and two daughters. She worked for Bassett Furniture, Biljo, and retired from Rockwell Automation. After retirement, she worked briefly as a CNA and returned to Jeff Davis County to be with her family who cared for and loved her until the end. Her sister, Betty Hendrix, and nieces, Jackie Waters, Dedra Hewett, and Melissa Butler deserve special mention for their selfless care.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ed Hendrix of Hazlehurst, daughters and sons-in-law Alicia and Kenny Mullis of East Dublin, Brandi Mimbs and Mitch Ullman of Lexington, SC, and a son, Frank Mimbs of Maryville, TN.
She has three surviving siblings, Betty Hendrix of Claxton, Evelyn Hewett of Plattesmouth, NE, and Jimmy Wood of Ray City, GA.
Barbara was very proud of each of her grandchildren, Delaina Barlow, Taylor Mullis, Morgan Mimbs-Ullman, Carmina de Guia, and Eleanor Mimbs, and her one great-grandchild, Mordicai Barlow.
Visitation will be at Northgate Baptist Church in Hazlehurst at 10 am Saturday, August 21, The funeral will be held at the church at 11 am following visitation, with burial at Oak Grove cemetery. Reverends Glynn Stinson, Eddis Kirkland, and Keith Yawn are officiating.
The family asks for donations to be made in Barbara's memory to the non-profit Community Hospice of Vidalia. Community Hospice provided compassionate care to her and her family during her final days. The personal service and comfortable environment they provided is warmly appreciated.
