Ms. Bennie Jones Stapleton, age 77, of Lumber City, passed away peacefully, at Jeff Davis Hospital, Sunday, January 22, 2023.
Mrs. Stapleton was born on September 08, 1945, in Lumber City.
She was Valedictorian of the Lumber City High School class of 1963 and was the Secretary for Ocmulgee Academy for many years. She enjoyed life and she touched a lot of people’s lives along the way. She enjoyed listening to gospel Music, and playing the piano and was a member of Stapleton’s gospel group. She loved her family dearly and especially the grandchildren, she always made a way to attend every event they were involved in.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Dewey Jones Sr. and Mrs. Annie Louise Bennett Jones, husband, John Wiley Stapleton Jr., a great-grandson, Ryder Herndon, sister, Annie Ruth Herndon, and brother, J.D. Jones Jr.
She retired from Western Auto, with several years of service, and was a member of the Lumber City Church of God.
Survivors include her son, John Wiley Stapleton III (Lee), and his wife Tammy of Lumber City; Lynn Haymons Pickel (Jamie) of Arkansas and Michelle Davenport (Chris) of Hazlehurst; sister, Betty Brown of Lumber City; nine grandchildren, Kandice (Brad) Purvis, Brandon (Tiffany) Stapleton, Rob (Lynn) Haymons, Malorie (Brian) Reagin, Rebekah Rentz, Kayla (Cody) Herndon, Ashley Stapleton, Chandler Davenport, and Anslee Davenport; sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023, in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, January 27, 2023, in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Deen and Rev. Brad Purvis officiating.
Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City, with Rev. Royce Hulett officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Brandon Stapleton, Rob Haymons, Chandler Davenport, Brad Purvis, Brian Reagin, and Cody Herndon.
Musical selections will be rendered by Dustin Hutto.
