Bennie Ussery Obituary

Mr. Bennie Carver Ussery, age 82, of Hazlehurst, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Ussery was born on December 01, 1941, in Jeff Davis County.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin “Pete” Ussery and Plura Rollins Ussery and his daughter, Kathy Ranae Ussery.

He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and an Electrician by trade, but he had many other interests. He was truly an outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming, gardening, and cutting grass, he always wanted his grass cutting to look manicured and professional.

He loved all animals, but he especially enjoyed working with his goats and was a very good shepherd to them. He had a big giving heart, was kind of quiet, never said a lot, but he always had his own opinion and defiantly would let his family know. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them, and his constant companion, known as Lucky. He will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Morris Ussery of Hazlehurst; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hal and Kay Ussery of Baxley and Greg and Debra Ussery of Hazlehurst; sister, Ms. Voncile Livingston of Hazlehurst; two grandchildren, Heather Ussery Miles (Tyler) and Hollie Ussery Causey (Colin); three great-grandchildren, Carver Miles, Zoey Miles and Dutton Causey; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held Saturday Morning August 17, 2024, at 10:00am in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery with Rev. Keith Yawn officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be TJ and Evelyn Roberson, Duke and Larise Campbell, Ken and Jimmi Nail King, Danna Vickers, Dane and Sharon Ussery, and Coastal Hospice.

Colin Causey, Tyler Miles, Greg Vickers, Tommy Campbell, Todd Ussery and Tommy Lawrence will serve as active pallbearers.

The family may be contacted at the Ussery residence, 36 Oak Grove Church Road, Hazlehurst.

Mr. Bennie’s granddaughter, Heather, will render the musical selections.
