Mr. Billy Ogilvie, age 82, of Jackson, formerly of Hazlehurst, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Brightmoor Hospice.
Mr. Ogilvie was born on May 25, 1942, in Jeff Davis County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elois Ogilvie and Marie Beall, and brothers, Halden L. Ogilvie and Tommy Forrest.
He was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School and on May 29, 1960, he married his sweetheart and the love of his life Mattie. He was a kind soul, always had a smile and was very warm and courteous to be around. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and served 5 and a half years. Upon leaving the Military Billy had various jobs but his love for Carpentry led him to construction. In the late 70’s Billy was State Superintendent of Georgia for Pulte Homes, Inc. He joined the Army Reserves in 1984. Hungry to forge his own way, he started building/developing on his own. This was a lifelong passion.
His family consists of his wife of almost 65 years, Mattie Merritt Ogilvie of Jackson; two sons and daughter-in-law, Billy Harris Ogilvie Jr. of Marietta and Craig Leith Ogilvie (Ginger) of Jackson; sister, Nancy Halsel of Hazlehurst; four grandchildren, Colin Ogilvie, Aili Ogilvie, Autumn Ogilvie and Elisabeth Ogilvie; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 01, 2025, at 2:00pm at Elizabeth Baptist Church with his two sons, Billy Ogilvie Jr. and Craig Ogilvie giving a Eulogy and Rev. Keith Yawn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Bridgeford Church of God Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Jeff Davis County Veterans Association.
Colin Ogilvie, Jacob Horton, Ashton Halsel, Josh Merritt, Jordan Merritt, and Josh Everidge will serve as active pallbearers.
Musical selections will be rendered by Gary Merritt, Chris Merritt, Angie Coppedge, Wade Ross, and Ethan Hutchinson.
