Buck Herndon

Mr. Warren “Buck” Herndon, age 84, of Hazlehurst, passed away at Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA, Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

Mr. Herndon was born July 8, 1938, in Hazlehurst, GA, to the late Warren and Vera Mae Long Herndon Sr.  He was employed by Jeff Davis County Road Department, served as Sunday School Supervisor at the Hazlehurst Church of God for over fifty years, and enjoyed fishing in the river.  In his younger years, he pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals minor league baseball team, raised coon dogs, and loved going coon hunting.  Mr. Herndon loved to visit with his family and friends, and will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife: Jacqueline Herndon; son: Gary Herndon (Anita) of Hazlehurst; grandchildren: Matthew Herndon of Ellabell and Kelli Grace Hughes (Dalton) of Hazlehurst; and brother: S.W. Herndon (JoAnn) of Hazlehurst.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening August 25, 2022, at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.  Services for Mr. Herndon will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, at 11:00am in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmie Ryles officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
