Ms. Carlene Music Smith, age 81, of Hazlehurst, died Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Ms. Smith was born August 09, 1940 in Ware County. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Lloyd Music and Lydia Taylor Music, husband, Tommy Eldon Smith, two brothers, William Lloyd Music and Billy Music, two sisters, Pauline Smith and Verlene Miller.
Mrs. Smith was a devoted Mother, Granny and Big Granny. She was her family’s fearless leader in the face of adversity and extended a hand of friendship and kindness to everyone she met. She resided most of her life in Altamaha Community and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Her church family meant the world to her, and she spoke of them often. Mrs. Smith was employed as a lunch lady with the Jeff Davis School System for many years, and she enjoyed serving her community. She was well known for her dumplings and cinnamon rolls. She loved God and Country, her family, and her friends with her whole heart. She was greatly loved and will be surely missed.
Survivors include, two sons, Jerome Smith (Robin) of Al and Wayne Smith (Lera) of Hazlehurst; sister-in-law, Linda Music of Hazlehurst; five grandchildren, Jennifer Gooden (Larry), Amber Nelms (Jeremy), Aaron Smith (Sierra), Travis Smith, and Kaelan Smith; eight grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. A beloved lifelong friend, Joann Harrell of Hazlehurst.
Visitation and Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Oakland Baptist Church, visitation will begin at 10:00am and funeral service will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Royce Hulett and Rev. Joey Andrews officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Her Adult Sunday School Class, family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Active pallbearers will be Aaron Smith, Matt Walsh, Mel Music, Jeff Smith, David Bryant and Andrew Varnadore.
Musical selections will be rendered by the congregation, Rev. Dustin Hutto and Rev. Billy Gardner.
