Carlton Hughes

Mr. Carlton N. (Oful Higgins) Hughes, age 69, of Hazlehurst passed away Friday, June 18, 2021 at his residence under the care of Regency Southern Care following as extended illness.

Mr. Hughes was born June 22, 1951 at Goldman’s Hospital in Jeff Davis County. He is preceded in death by his parents, Onis F. Hughes, Vera Mae Sellers McNeal and Norman Haynes, Sr.; sister, Essie Mae McNeal; brothers, Jimmy Haynes, Tommy Haynes, Billy Haynes and niece, Angie Hughes Rowland.

Mr. Hughes was retired from Amoco Fabrics & Fibers and Trucks, Inc. After retirement he was a school bus driver with Jeff Davis County School System. He was an active member of Grace Community Church of God in Hazlehurst.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sandra McAllister Hughes of Hazlehurst;

Three sons, Chris (Shelley) Hughes of Lumber City, Shane Hughes of Hazlehurst, and John Rowell of Newnan; grandchildren he raised, Bailey Rowell and Micheal Rowell, of Hazlehurst; granddaughters, Gracey Hughes of Lumber City, AshLeigh Hughes of Hazlehurst and Emily Bovingdon of Newnan; grandsons, Logan (Hayden) Hughes of Lumber City, Nate Hughes of Hazlehurst, Travis Hughes of Baxley and Dylan Bovingdon of Newnan; great grandson Paxton Walker of Lumber City; sisters, Gail (Snooky) Thornton, Belinda (BoPete) Carter and Joann McNeal of Hazlehurst; brothers, Fulton Hughes of Alma, Edward (Edna) Hughes and Norman Haynes Jr. both of Hazlehurst; brothers-in-law, Sam McAllister, Jerry (Teresa) Evans of Hazlehurst and James (Debbie) Evans of Waycross. Aunt, Lillian Broughton of Melrose, FL and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 22, 2021 at 6:00-8:00pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 2:00pm at Grace Community Church with Rev. Joel Auger, Rev. Alvin Merritt, Rev. Jinker Horton and Rev. Nathan Greer officiating.

Mr. Hughes will lie in state at church one hour prior to service time.

Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be nephews; Jimmy Barnes, Kaleb Carter, Bubba Horton, Tommy Hughes, Michael Pickren and Jonah Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Davis County School System family.
