Mr. Chapman “Johnny” Atkinson, age 86, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Atkinson was born November 13, 1934 in Pensacola FL. but has made his home in Hazlehurst for the past 41 years having come from Chicago Illinois. While living in Chicago, he worked for Bally Manufacturing as a foreman for over 20 years making slot machines. He retired from Fales Furniture in Hazlehurst. He was a member of the Satilla Free Will Baptist Church and the Hazlehurst Masonic Lodge #283. He is preceded in death by his parents Arnold Atkinson and Ila Mae White, wife Christine Thompson Atkinson, three sons, Jimmy Atkinson, Thomas Atkinson, William Atkinson, grandson, Jimmy Atkinson Jr.
Survivors include his son Raymond J. Atkinson (Amie) of Hazlehurst; daughter, Karen E. Dean (Stanley) of Rossville; brother, Michael Atkinson (Frances) of Wewahitchka FL; friend and caregiver, Gabby Beltran; six grandchildren, Kathrine Espinosa, Christopher Dean, Cora Mae Atkinson, Nathan Atkinson, Hannah Atkinson and Riley Atkinson; three great-grandchildren, Kayla S. Espinosa, Wessin Lee Dean and Weslee Leon Dean.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00am in the Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Stanley Dean, Nathan Atkinson, Riley Atkinson, Colby Davis, Christopher Dean and David Espinosa.
Member of the Hazlehurst Masonic Lodge #283 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
