Diane Leggett Obituary

Ms. Diane Bass Leggett, age 79, of Hazlehurst, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at her residence, under the care of Coastal Hospice.

Ms. Leggett was born on December 10, 1946, to the late W.R. Bass and Eucu Lee Smith Bass. She was a retired Customer Service Manager with Hazlehurst Walmart and a member of the Liberty Community Church.

Today, we come together to honor and celebrate our Mama—our grandmother—who meant so much to all of us. She wasn’t just a grandmother; she was love, comfort, strength, and home all wrapped into one beautiful soul.

If you knew her, you knew how much she loved her family. Being a Mama and a grandmother wasn’t just a title to her—it was her purpose, her joy, and her heart. She made each of us feel special, seen, and deeply loved in a way only she could.
Some of our favorite memories of her are the simple ones—sitting together, spending time, and especially watching the Georgia Bulldogs play. She cheered them on with her whole heart, and those moments weren’t just about football—they were about being together, laughing, and sharing something she loved. Every time we see those colors or hear about a game, we’ll think of her.

She had a way of making everything feel okay. Whether it was her words, her presence, or just being near her, she brought peace and comfort to the people around her. She was strong, in a quiet and steady way, and she showed us how to love without limits.

The love she gave doesn’t end here. It lives on in all of us—in the way we care for each other, in the traditions we keep, and in the memories we hold close. She helped shape who we are, and that is something that will never fade.

Mama, thank you for the love you gave, for the memories we’ll cherish forever, and for being the heart of this family. You will be missed more than words can say, but you will never be forgotten.
And as hard as it is to say goodbye, we know this isn’t the end. It’s just “see you later. “We love you always.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Leggett Sr., brother, Randy Bass, son-in-law, Don Redman and special friend Kat Waters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Jimmy and Brenda Leggett and Jay and Kimberly Leggett both of Hazlehurst; two daughters, Terri Redman of Hazlehurst and Kris Leggett of Hazlehurst; sisters, Martha Feller of Hazlehurst, Connie Fletcher of South Carolina and Marie (Keith) Davis of Hazlehurst; special friend, Sherry Browning of Lumber City; two grandchildren, Kayla Leggett and Kelsee Leggett; six great-grandchildren, Shyenne, Kinslee,  Jr., Kris, Cade, and Karson, several nieces and nephews also survive.
