Mrs. Dorothy Ann “Dot” Wrenn, age 86, of Vidalia, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at her home.
She was born on December 4, 1939, in Alma to the late Dewitt Waters and Sally Davis Waters. She was raised in Hazlehurst and later made her home in Lyons in the 1980s, where she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a darkroom technician for the Lyons Progress newspaper before retiring, after which she joined her beloved husband, Steve, on the road during his years as a truck driver. In time, after the loss of her daughter and son-in-law, she chose to come off the road to devote herself fully to raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her own. To them, she was not just a “Granny,” but a mother figure who gave each of them a piece of her heart and soul. If you needed help, she was always there, and if she loved you, you never had to wonder. Together with her husband, she showed what it truly meant to love and serve family—with loyalty, compassion, and grace.
Dot enjoyed people watching, and found simple joy sitting at her table watching birds outside her window. She had a creative spirit and loved arts and crafts, especially sewing—making clothes, doll outfits, and countless hair bows for her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, known for her delicious pies and cakes, and she also enjoyed fishing and spending time around horses.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Michael Wrenn; her daughter, Betty Marie Carter; her brothers, Bud Waters, Cecil Waters, Penny Waters, Wilton Waters, Andy Waters, John Waters, Hubert Waters, and Billy Waters; her sisters, Linda Carrol Kersey, Wilma Price, and Gloria Jeanine McClendon; her grandson, Joseph Jerome Carter; and her granddaughter, Tonya Marie Wilds.
Dot is survived by her grandchildren, Rena’ Carter of Vidalia, and Chad Carter (Debra) of Collins; her brother, Wayne Waters of Hazlehurst; her sister, Opal Cothren of Jacksonville, FL; her great-grandchildren, Tristin Braswell of Vidalia, Cheyenne Floyd (Matthew) of Hazlehurst, Harli Carter Witter (Coadie) of Statesboro, Madison Carter, Baylee Carter, Robert “R.J.” Carter, Charleigh Carter, all of Collins, and Shelby Harden (Dakota) of Lyons; her great-great grandchildren, Gracie Floyd, Liam Witter, and Ashlynn Witter; her adopted granddaughter and great-grandchildren, Pam Bell and Mason and Madilyn Bell; her granddaughter-in-law, Starr Rowland; a special niece, Paula Wrenn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family only.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home and the Carter family are in charge of all arrangements.
