Gary Porterfield Obituary

Mr. Gary Brandon Porterfield, age 40, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

Brandon was born on December 21, 1984, in Hazlehurst to the late Gwen Hall and Gary Porterfield. He was a 2003 graduate of Jeff Davis High School. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving as an 11 Bravo Infantryman with the 82nd Airborne Division and the Rangers during the war in Afghanistan. Brandon was deeply patriotic and honored to serve his country. He loved working out and was known for his big heart, strength, and resilience. Despite life’s challenges, he faced each day with determination and perseverance.

In addition to his birth parents, Brandon is preceded in death by his grandmother and the mother who raised him, Trellys Chavis Porterfield.

Brandon is survived by his son, Max Porterfield of Hazlehurst; his brothers, Jake Porterfield (Amber), and Rusty Porterfield (Tabitha), all of Hazlehurst; his friend, Courtney Hulett of Hazlehurst; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Ashley Tyree and James Wilson officiating and military honors rendered by the Jeff Davis County Veterans Association.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kody Nail, Kelly Labigang, Chad Chaney, Brandon Rowland, James Wilson, and Brandon’s Thompson Hardwoods coworkers.

Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home and the Porterfield family are in charge of arrangements.
