Mr. George Edward Irwin, Jr., age 87, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at his home.
Mr. Irwin was born on December 3, 1938, in Wilmington, Delaware, to the late George Edward Irwin, Sr. and Florence McKeowen Irwin. He had lived in Hazlehurst for over 50 years and worked as an ironworker throughout his entire career. Through his work, he helped construct many notable landmarks across the country, including the Delaware Bridge and the Playboy Mansion.
In his later years, Mr. Irwin enjoyed being outdoors, spending time in his yard working and building. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known for his happy and humorous nature, his deep love for family, and his straightforward personality — always telling it like it was.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Irwin was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Jean Green Irwin; his brothers, Bobby Irwin, Butch Irwin, Donald Irwin, and Richard Irwin; and his sister, Anna Irwin.
He is survived by his sons, William Irwin of Smyrna, Delaware, and Johnnie Tupman (Lisa) of Hazlehurst; his daughter, Sharon Irwin Brandes (Andy) of Smyrna, Delaware; his brother, Kevin Irwin; his grandchildren, Katelyn Irwin Caldwell (Billy), Samuel Brandes (Nadia), and William Brandes, all of Smyrna, Delaware, Deej Dukes (Lee), and Brydjette Peacock (Colby), all of Hazlehurst; his great-grandchildren, Robert Caldwell, Kolyn Dukes, Raylyn Dukes, Lakelynn Dukes, Damieyen Peacock, Riddick Peacock, Anna Grace Dukes, Charliee Dukes, Adalynn Dukes, and Waylon Barr; and his special bonus family, Bobby and Pam Dukes, Billy and Tesia Dukes, Gage and Bre Dukes, and Katlyn and Chase Barr.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
