Harold McDowell Obituary

Mr. Harold William McDowell, of Hazlehurst, died Thursday October 12, 2023 at his  residence.

Mr. McDowell was born August 08, 1933 in Wommack Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Monroe McDowell and Clara Hawthorne McDowell, his wife of 58 years, Sarah Emily Smith McDowell, wife, Jean Wood McDowell, and son, James Ezra McDowell.

Mr. Mac was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Mt Zion Baptist Church.

He had strong work ethics, he worked hard all of his life. He retired from 89 Camron Squadron   Andrews Air Force Base in 1977. He then went to work at Waters Electrical for many years. His second love was Mt Zion Baptist Church but his first love was Sarah Emily McDowell.  He loved his family especially the grandchildren and his fury companion, Lizzie.

He will be sadly missed by his family and his church family.

Survivors include his son, Darrell McDowell of Hazlehurst; daughters, Glenda Knox of Hazlehurst; Lori (Max) Drury of Hazlehurst; daughter-in-law, Pam McDowell of Hazlehurst; brother, Eugene (Midge) McDowell of MO.; eight grandchildren, Emily Kate Knox, Kyle Gordon (Amberly) Knox, Amanda Grace McDowell, Valerie Dawn (Josh) Stewart, Jessica McDowell (Chase) Brown, Zachary James (Wendy) McDowell, Justin Lee (Mandy) Washam, and Kara Leann (Joshua) Harrell; ten great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.  

Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 at Mt Zion Baptist Church, visitation will begin at 1:00pm and the funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Mr. Kevin Waters, Mr. Chad Brewer and Rev. Glynn Stinson officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

His grandsons, Zachary McDowell, Justin Washam, Kyle Knox, Logan Evans, Chase Brown, and Joshua Harrell will serve as active pallbearers.

All members of Mt Zion Baptist Church will serve as Honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Regency Southern Care Hospice, Bryce Square Vidalia.

The family may be contacted at the residence of Pam McDowell’s, 212 Arthur McNeal Road, Hazlehurst.

The McDowell Family and Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home respectfully ask all in attendance to continue to follow social distancing guidelines set by our local health district and the CDC.
