Inez Varnadoe Obituary

Mrs. Inez Joyce Varnadoe, age 89, of Lumber City, passed away Wednesday, May 07, 2025, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

Mrs. Varnadoe was born on February 12, 1936, in Lumber City. She married her husband, Ray, on August 6, 1951, and they traveled to numerous cities with his military service, including Crestview, FL, Tucson, AZ, and Bangkok, Thailand, before settling back in Lumber City in 1973.

She was a devoted member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in the simple pleasures of life — fishing, tending to her garden, and surrounding herself with flowers. She cherished spending time in her yard, often feeding the birds and rabbits that visited her home.

Inez had a gift for cooking and delighted in preparing meals for others, always eager to share her table and her heart. Above all, she was devoted to her family. She cared deeply for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always putting their needs before her own. Her life was a testament to selflessness, and she gave her all to those she loved.

Mrs. Varnadoe is preceded in death by her parents, Caswell and Cora Lee Hearn; her brothers, A.C. Hearn and Terry Hearn; her sisters, Polly Hearn, June Griffin, and Dorothy Caldwell; her son-in-law, Rev. Al Butler; her niece, Lynn Walsh; and her cousins, Gladys Carpenter and Joe Carpenter.

Her family includes her husband of 74 years, Ray Varnadoe of Lumber City; her son, David Varnadoe (Beth) of Hazlehurst; her daughter, Laura Butler of Lumber City; her sister, Alice Scruggs of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Thomas Butler (Brittany) of Lumber City, and James Butler (Caitlin) of Shadydale; her great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Ryan, Walter, Raychel, Clara, Maggie, Ford, Hank, Sally Jean, and Mac Butler; her nephews, Kevin Hearn (Rebecca) of Kentucky, and Jerry Caldwell; her nieces, Candi Hearn of Lumber City, Lisa Jones (Tripp) of Florida, Karen Griffin of Arkansas, Faith Scruggs, Mary (Andrew), and Pam Scruggs, all of Atlanta; and Jill of Arkansas; great-nieces and nephews, Triston and Grayson Lewis, Olivia, Anna Grace, and Caswell Hearn, Jamie Ashley, Joni Durden, Shane, Jake, Derek, and Haley.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Pastor Dusty Allen officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
