Mrs. Jackie Fowler, age 90, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
 
She was born on February 29, 1936, in Soperton to the late Emmitt Milton Simons and Susie McNeal Simons. Jackie was devoted to her family, and nothing brought her more joy than time spent together—especially with her grandchildren. She had a strong maternal nature and truly cherished being “Mama.” She was deeply loving, yet strong-willed, with a sharp and thoughtful mind.
 
Throughout her life, Jackie was always a people person. Whether she was teaching, managing Radio Shack, or working at the hospital, she connected easily with others and left a lasting impression. Her intelligence was evident from an early age, as she was a two-time state spelling bee champion during her school years.
 
Jackie had a love for reading and generously gave her time volunteering at the local library. She was an animal lover at heart and shared a special bond with her dog, Joey. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and card games, always appreciating a good challenge. She also loved to travel, especially to the mountains.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Fowler; and her brothers, Earl, Randolph, Sam, Wyman, and Jim Simons.
 
Survivors include her sons, David Randall (Debbie) Fowler of Newnan, Scott (Julie) Fowler of Hazlehurst, Robin (Lynn) Fowler of Tallahassee, and Todd (Cindy) Fowler of Hazlehurst; three sisters-in-law, Edwina Simons, Christine Simons, and Ellene Fowler, all of Soperton; seven grandchildren, Matt Fowler, Katie (Steven) Teal, Dustin Fowler, Kristen Fowler, Charles (Laura) Staffins, Ashton (Cady) Adams, and Justin (Anna) Adams; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 2:00pm in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Stinson officiating.
 
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until just prior to the service.
 
Burial will follow in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
 
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home and the Fowler family are in charge of arrangements.
