Mr. James Dunn, age 89, of Hazlehurst died Thursday, December 03, 2020 at Jeff Davis Hospital.
Mr. Dunn was born April 13, 1931 in Appling County. He is preceded in death by his parents Jewell Dunn and Bernice Crosby Dunn, his wife, Eddie Merle Spann Dunn, son, James Edward Dunn Jr. (Jimbo), brothers, Norman Dunn, W.R. Dunn, Reddar Dunn and Max Dunn, sisters, Lillian D. White, Adell D. Miller and Merlene D. Kelly. Mr. Dunn was the owner and operator of Dunn-Rite Cabinet Shop; organized the Jeff Davis County Fire Department and served as volunteer Fire Chief, was instrumental in starting the Senior Citizens Nutrition Program, Transportation Program, and Multi-Purpose Center for Senior Citizens. He was the Director of the Emergency Management Agency for 26 years, was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst and was a beloved PaPa, known to many and will be sadly missed by everyone.
Survivors include his two daughters, Debbie Dunn Coley (Keith) of Lumber City and Suzanne Dunn Howard (John) of Hazlehurst; sister, Bertie Helen Crosby of Pine Grove; grandchildren, Allen Keith Coley Jr. (Jennifer), Joshua Marc Coley, Christa Taylor (Kevin), Casey Cravey (Tony), Jayme Crosby (Richard), Aaron Smith and Travis Smith; fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, December 05, 2020 at 2:00pm in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery with granddaughter, Casey Cravey giving the Eulogy, Rev. Brad Waters and Chief Charles Wasdin officiating.
