Joan (Chavis) Neal

Ms. Joan Chavis Neal, age 74, of Hazlehurst, passed away at Meadows Health in Vidalia.

Ms. Neal was born on September 12, 1950, in Jeff Davis County.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Chavis and Mary Kersey Chavis, husband, Harry Neal, son, Sonny Hughes, sisters, Barbara Smith, Patsy Dyson, Virginia Griffin, Ann Davis, Sharon Gay, brothers, Bill Chavis, and Glen Chavis.

Ms. Neal had made Hazlehurst her home her entire life.

In her younger days, she enjoyed cooking for her family and occasionally going fishing. But as time went on, she enjoyed watching TV, especially criminal investigation shows and solving crossword puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her survivors include, two sons, Timmy Hughes and Donnie Deen, both of Hazlehurst; daughter, Angie (Steve) Everett of Hazlehurst; sisters, Peggy Dyal, Debra Dean and Pam(Terrell) Register; grandchildren, Cody Everett, Maeghan Everett, Taylor Hughes, Zack Hughes, Tandra Hughes, TJ Hughes, Kyle Hughes, Kori Hughes, Sarah Hughes, Gracie Hughes, Hayden Hughes, Jacob Hughes, Chase Hughes, and Aeriel Hughes; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 02, 2025, at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Wainright Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Carter, who is officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ricky Dyal, Jimmy Dyal, Terry Clements, Jerry Clements, Terrell Register, and Andy Griffin.
