Mr. J.L. Rentz, age 96, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mr. Rentz was born on February 22, 1926, in Jeff Davis County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Lott Rentz Sr. and Fodia Rain Cain Rentz, his wife, Lurene Summerlin Rentz, and his son, Mike Rentz.
He was a Proud Veteran of the United States Army, he was the last of the World War II Cavalry Unit, and also the last family member of the Joe Lott Rentz Sr. Family. Years ago he started the Rentz family gospel group which later years evolved as the Pilgrims Quartet.
He loved his family dearly, enjoyed woodworking, and was the community fix-all man. His family said he was truly a Godly Man and he told everyone, that he contributed his long life to good Godly living.
Survivors include his Son, Tony Rentz (his wife Brenda) of Waycross; three daughters, Peggy Spell LeCours (her husband Jim) of Hazlehurst, Debra Rentz of Hazlehurst, Kathy Jolley (her husband Barry Duggan) of Macon; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews also survived.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, with Graveside services following at 11:00 am in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Taylor officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be all family and friends in attendance.
Active pallbearers will be Jammie Carter, Garrett Spell, Gabe Spell, Jason Hughes, Blake Medders, and Ryan Sellers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Community Hospice, 904 Mt Vernon Road, Vidalia Ga. 30474.
