Mr. Joel Mark Chaney, age 52, of Hazlehurst, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 17, 2026, at his home.
Mr. Chaney was born on January 05, 1974, in Mountain View California.
He was a devoted husband and a loving father, cherishing his wife, children, and grandchildren above all else. Known affectionately as “Pagi” and “Pappy” by his grandchildren —titles he wore with great pride—he found immense joy in his family. He also dearly loved his extraordinary dog, Punk, who was his constant companion and comfort who traveled the United States with him.
He loved his work and was both intelligent and wise, with a clear vision and deep passion for bringing life back to downtown Hazlehurst through renovation and beautification. He could do anything he put his mind and heart to. He had a beautiful, vibrant personality, always the life of the party, a natural jokester, and someone who never met a stranger. He walked into every conversation with a smile, and somehow always left others with a laugh, a lifted spirit, and a smile of their own.
He had a servant’s heart, marked by kindness and a gift for helping and encouraging others. He remained steadfast and true to himself and his loved ones throughout his life, walking in the image of Jesus without pretense, falsity or condemnation for another human being. Everyone was equal in his eyes. Some of his greatest enjoyments was traveling with his wife, a great meal, and vacations with his family and grandchildren.
Mr. Chaney is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Ann Grant and his beloved “Pop” Johnny Chaney.
Survivors include his wife, Rory Mancil Chaney of Hazlehurst; daughter, Chloe Chaney of Hazlehurst; two sons, Tyler (Holly) Chaney of Hazlehurst and Caleb (Bubby) Chaney of Hazlehurst; father and mother, Jack and Karla Chaney of Hazlehurst; brother, Joshua (Joely) Chaney of North Carolina; step-brother, Adam Penn of Atlanta; step-sister, Jessica Markham of Columbus; aunt, Jane Sanchez; God son, Tylier (Riley) Spencer ; his four grandchildren, Colton Phillips, Brooklyn Chaney, Alec Chaney, Delanie Chaney; and his best friend, Josh Allday; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Hazlehurst Church of God at 3:00pm with Rev. Brett Roberts officiating.
For visitation, the family will receive friends from 1:00pm until just prior to the service.
